Random sampling, which allows nonprobability biases to be avoided, was not used because this study followed up new incoming patients referred for orthotic treatments. These orthoses did not require casting of the foot, which reduced the manpower and time of an orthotist and, therefore, reduced production cost. In our study, the accommodative orthotic insole lowered mean pain scores over the 8 weeks; however, a statistical difference was not found.
